The guard & folding clam shell guard are very ornate with U.S. motifs on one side & blank on the other which is correct for a true 1860 civil war sword. They both retain all of their original gold gilt on them. The original grip is also minty. The blue finish metal scabbard is fine & has the correct single ring on the top fitting. The minty blade has perfect U.S. Military Etching and all of its original frosting on it.
